Workforce Housing

I agree something must be done to provide workforce housing in Beaufort County and more specifically for the employees on Hilton Head Island. We are facing many issues when it comes to devising the right plan to address this. Where should it be located? How many units should we build? We need to work together to avoid just building more oversized apartment complexes on the island that fail to address what employees really want. We also need to ask questions, such as how does development impact roadways and traffic? And if we build workforce housing will it even be utilized to its fullest potential? One thing I know, is that before you build it you need to talk to employees. Do these employees even want to live on the island? Some of the employees that would be targeted for this housing won’t move here because they already live in established communities with their friends, family, church, schools, etc.
